Fall books update

Some of the heavy hitters have new books out/upcoming:

• Denis Johnson's Tree of Smoke is already out, and it's a doorstop - 624 pages. I read Jesus' Son in a sitting -- those days seem to be over.
• Richard Russo's Bridge of Sighs comes out in October. I loved Nobody's Fool and Straight Man, but was lukewarm on Empire Falls. We'll see.
• Philip Roth's Exit Ghost also comes out in October. Apparently it's the final Zuckerman book. We probably won't get another Portnoy but here's to hoping.

I guess it's too much to ask for another Pynchon so soon.
